On the beginning leg of this journey, a friend was led to give us a book she was reading one morning, proclaiming “I think you two could really use this on your trip and it will be a blessing to you.” It’s a daily devotional titled Jesus Calling by Sarah Young, with inspired musings for each day of the year, followed by a few verses to coincide the topics.
We opened it up immediately and ever since, we’ve been reading it each day. It’s short, sweet, to the point, and totally relevant to things we experience and are challenged with all the time. This devotional has also been a tool we’ve used on multiple occasions, loaning it to a fellow camping neighbor or using it during conversation with someone we met. It has not only been a blessing to us, but to other people along the way.
This particular reading below describes the journey we are on, and may shed light to those of you who may not understand why it is that we are doing what we are doing. We hope this will also encourage you and perhaps challenge you to reconsider the path you are walking on each day and how you respond to all of life’s choices.
(Note: It is written as if the Lord is speaking to you.)
As you become increasingly aware of My Presence, you’ll find it easier to discern the way you should go. This is one of the practical benefits of living close to Me. Instead of wondering about what is on the road ahead or worrying about what you should do if…or when…, you can concentrate on staying in communication with Me. When you actually arrive at a choice-point, I will show you which direction to go.
Many people are so preoccupied with future plans and decisions that they fail to see choices they need to make today. Without any conscious awareness, they make their habitual responses. People who live this way find a dullness creeping into their lives. They sort of sleepwalk through their days, following well-worn paths of routine.
I, the creator of the Universe, am the most creative Being imaginable. I will not leave you circling in deeply rutted paths. Instead, I will lead you along fresh trails of adventure, revealing to you things you did not know. Stay in communication with Me. Follow My guiding Presence.
Psalm 32:8 | I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.
Genesis 1:1 | In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” | Hebrews 11:1, 3
“…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” | Hebrews 12:1-2
“Then Jesus said, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” | Matthew 16:24
